Happy Birthday, America!

Today I wanted to honor the men in my family
who have served our country, both currently and in the past.

My cousin Travis and his wife Cassie
Travis is an Army Ranger who is currently serving in Iraq.

Uncle Glenn and his 4 kids (and grandchild on the way, in this picture :)
Colonel Uncle Glenn is an Army Chaplain who served over a year in Iraq and is now serving stateside.

Uncle Eric and Aunt Susan
Uncle Eric served in the Navy for about 6 years before he was married.
He came to know the Lord during his time of service.

Grammy and Daddy Jim
Daddy Jim was an officer in the Navy for many years.

Pop and Granny
Pop also served for a time in the Navy.

And in closing,
I had a photo shoot with little Miss America herself today. :)

Thank You, Father, for our country and the freedoms with which You've blessed us.
Thank You for those who have fought and sacrificed for those freedoms.
And above all, thank You for the freedom found in Your Son!
Today, as we celebrate the birth of America -
"the land of the free and the home of the brave" -
may our hearts be bent to "desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one" (Hebrews 11:16).

Katie, Claire is too cute and festive... your are going to have to save all your cute old clothes for us so our kids will be dressed this sweet. Ha!

What a line up of greats. Thank the Lord for heroes. We have so many in our family. I know, like her mom she could be Miss America, but I think one Miss Alabama pageant is enough for any family. I'm not sure my little heart could take it again. Wonder if she would win Miss Congeniality like her mom?
